Magic Tricks

Words of wisdom: Don’t assume you have something you need.  If you’re going to the grocery store, check first.

In other words, I was going to post many mouth-watering pictures of an amazing zucchini cake with equally amazing cream cheese frosting.  But I was just so certain I had powdered sugar.  Now that I think about it, that last batch of puppy chow wiped me out…

Moving on…

Instead, I headed to the “homemaking” section of StumbleUpon for inspiration.  I’m rather inspired by the first link.

Interesting Things to Know

What could be better, right?  Actually… I’m a little scared by a lot of the things on that list.  For instance, Pam cooking spray will dry your nail polish.  Huh.  Firstly, how did they figure this out (or any of these, for that matter)?  Even reading that, I’m afraid to try it for fear I will not only have smudged nails, but greasy hands.

I guess desperate times call for desperate measures, and that’s how someone decided peanut butter would be a good thing to use to fill scratches on CDs.  I mean, if you can’t play the CD anyway, what do you have to lose, right?

And again with the peanut butter–use it to remove labels off of glass?  Why not just use vinegar?  Works as well (I assume–I don’t know for sure as I haven’t tried the PB method), without the extra clean up of getting the peanut butter off the glass.  I love peanut butter, but sometimes the smell is nauseating.  Then again, vinegar isn’t really a walk in the park either.  I’d still rather use the vinegar, though.

The one I think I’m most interested in trying though is the dryer sheets to remove baked on food.  There is a box of dryer sheets in this house.  I don’t use it (oh, that reminds me… clothes in the wash need to be dried!).  The Hippy’s mother bought it for him.  He uses it IF he dries the clothes.  I can’t stand the smell of them and the chemicals scare me (stopped using them the same time I started making my own detergent and for the same reasons).  I’m equally nervous about the chemicals getting on my cookware, but I think I could wash it thoroughly enough afterward to avoid that issue.  As long as the smell doesn’t remain.  I REALLY hate the smell of dryer sheets.  BLEH!

I think I’ll test that one sometime and get back to you.  Maybe I’ll do a side-by-side comparison.  Perhaps a batch of cookies is in order. Yes.  For science.  Cookies for science.
